Why you need philosophy in your life


A mind-expanding introductory talk and roundtable discussion with Professor James Tartaglia (James Tartaglia - Wikipedia), intended for people who know little or nothing about philosophy. The talk will begin by inviting you to distance yourself from your everyday concerns, like shopping or family tensions, to instead think of your life in the vast context of the physical universe. Then, once you’ve moved from the everyday to the physical, Professor Tartaglia will expand the context further to the metaphysical, explaining how considerations about the nature of time and mind put your life into the greatest perspective of all. Understanding this perspective may make you interested in living a philosophical lifestyle, as many chose to do in the ancient world, when people of any profession, whether bakers, bankers or hairdressers, would join a philosophical school to learn its lifestyle, the main ones being Platonism, Stoicism…
